If your answer is YES to these 10 key indicators, you have a high likelihood of work comp fraud.
California worker compensation fraud is a multi-billion dollar drain on insurance companies and self-insured businesses. The first step to a solution is to identify the cases with the highest likelihood of fraud and take appropriate action, including worker comp fraud surveillance. Here are 10 sample questions that indicate high fraud probability:

Sample Fraud Analyzer Questions:

  1. The incident occurred in an area where the injured employee would not normally be in their normal work routine.

  2. There was significant time lapse between the injury date and the date the injured employee first received medical treatment.

  3. An incident that started out as a soft tissue claim progresses to reporting of psychiatric symptoms.

  4. The injured employee changes physicians when a release for work has been issued.

  5. The medical provider uses multiple names or changes names frequently.

  6. The medical reports contain spelling errors, inaccurate terminology, inconsistent doctor’s signatures or contain rubber-stamped signatures.

  7. The attorney lien or representation letter is dated the same day as the reported incident date or shortly thereafter.

  8. The injured employee reports an injury immediately following a layoff, termination, disciplinary action, notice of probation, demotion, or being passed over for promotion

  9. The injured employee uses addresses of family members and friends or uses post office boxes and has no known permanent address.

  10. The injured employee is hardly ever home when called or is usually "unavailable" especially during work hours.

The more positive responses, the greater the likelihood of fraud.
